One of the biggest questions that I get asked is whether or not oils are safe to be used on the face. There is a lot of energy surrounding the idea that using oils on the face will cause and/or aggravate breakouts, clog pores, and be detrimental to the skin. I’m here to tell you that that idea is FALSE.
Using a Facial Serum is actually one of the best things that you can do to take care of your skin. I could go on for days, but I compiled the Top 5 Reasons Your Skin NEEDS a Facial Serum in order to function optimally and create that sought after glow.
1. A serum is food for your skin
Because serums do not contain many of the heavy ingredients found in most moisturizers, they contain a higher level of active ingredients, the ingredients that your skin absorbs and uses to increase cellular functions linked to healthier and radiant skin. This makes the serum contain high levels of antioxidants, hydrators (such as essential fatty acids), and anti-inflammatory properties.
2. Facial Serums balance oil levels
Putting oil (the right kind of oil) on your skin can actually balance sebum levels, allowing your skin to spend more energy on cellular function rather than oil production. Many common products actually dry out the skin, and this causes an over production of oil in response. Using a carefully formulated serum with a combination of the right oils, your skin will be able to maintain a beautiful balance of oil levels. This will leave your skin feeling nourished and glowing on a level you have yet to experience.
3. It can be layered
One of the best things about using a serum in your skincare ritual is that it can be layered underneath heavier products such a moisturizer. This is especially important for those with mature skin, or those that live in incredibly dry environments (if your from Colorado too, you know what I mean). It is light enough not to create a grease like consistency on the skin, and helps to interact with a natural moisturizer to lock in nutrients and support the skin’s overall vitality.
4. Serums spot treat top skin concerns
There are a lot of products out there designed to treat one concern. Under eye bag creams, wrinkle creams, acne products, the list goes on and on. Serum’s are a great addition to your skincare ritual because their potent combination of nutrients and active constituents work together to treat multiple skin concerns such as the ones listed above. This way, you don’t have to worry about adding in 5 new products, you get to pick one that you will love and want to continue to use!
5. A serum simplifies your skincare ritual
One of my favorite parts about using a serum is that it simplifies a skincare ritual. Cleanser, Toner, Serum, Moisturizer- the combination that will leave your skin absolutely glowing! We are firm believers that simple rituals using pure and plant based products yield the best results. Your skin knows how to use the nutrients used on the skin, and you are less likely to get any form of chemical in your product. Plus, you’ll have those 10 extra minutes to use for something else, like meditation or journaling!
My favorite serum? The Rosehip & Saffron Emerald Facial Serum (of course)!
